We Have Heart

This week a blog post went out regarding our first giving project of the year. We are providing Meals for Mexico. We have many 206 past families that will be joining our efforts to bring a meal down to Mexican families who sometimes go without food. We would love for you to participate! This is a great way to help provide meals for families in need, but an even greater opportunity to have a discussion with your child/family regarding the hunger needs world-wide.

If you plan to participate, remember that all food bags need to be turned in by Thursday, December 7th. If you forgot the details about the food bags you can click here to read the post regarding the bags:  https://www.linneamiller.com/2017/11/heart-family-food-bags/

Star of the Week

Next Monday our first Star of the Week poster will be going home. This is a listening/speaking activity. One child will get a turn each week. When it is your child’s turn they will receive:

  • “All About Me” Poster
  • Direction sheet from Mrs. Leatherwood & Mrs. Miller
  • A sample of the listening/speaking rubric that shows what to practice with your child

This is a fun activity that you can create with your child. We will continue giving each child a turn when we return from Winter Break.

Western BBQ

Next Wednesday is the Western BBQ. We hope you can all make it! If you are able to make it, please fill out and return the slip at the bottom of the flyer sent home this week. If  you plan attending, please make sure you stop go through the office to sign in prior to going to lunch.

Problem of Day Booklets

Next week, you will be receiving the remainder of your child’s old Problem of the Day (POD) booklet. We are starting a new booklet this week and decided to send the old booklet home to be completed for practice. These DO NOT need to be returned. We are starting a new unit of numbers 6-10 in which we will practice the same skills along with some new tools, methods, and question types with numbers a little bit larger. Have your child explain how they use their booklets to show their work in 2 ways as well as write an equation and share their answer.

Mother Son Bowling

The flyer went home this past Friday regarding the annual Mother Son Bowling event. This is a great date for moms and their little guys! In February we also have our Father Daughter Dance to let our Daddies have a night with their gals! Return the form and come on out for a great night!

Reading Rotation/Deployment

This past week was our first week of our new Reading Rotation with all the kindergarten classes. I sent out an email regarding our new system, but essentially it lets every student get direct instruction in their reading level 4 days a week in addition to trying out a new classroom and getting more comfortable with our kindergarten teachers! This is a great opportunity and the kids have really enjoyed it! So proud of these sweet TK’s as they each transitioned super smoothly and had an awesome week!

Volunteers for January Calendar

Volunteers! Thank you for your time and help each month! I will be making the January Volunteer Calendar early this week since it will need to be out earlier this month. If you have any special changes for next month, please let me know right away so I can adjust the calendar. Thank you!

Writing – Informative

For these 3 weeks before we go on Winter Break, we are working on a Information unit. We have discussed in our Informative writing is all about information. We are not writing a story but rather giving information about a topic. We are doing so in a modeled writing format to also address/practice capitalization, punctuation, etc. After trying on a modeled piece about a topic, many students will go off to write a piece of their own.

In January we will continue Informative Writing with a new unit in which we write the steps about “How-to” do something we know. This is similar, but will focus more on the craft of “how-to” writing and will be more in the form of a book.

Each of these units focus differently on different aspects of informative writing.
