Penguin Parade – Generosity!

Next Friday, our school will have its annual Penguin Parade. In this event, each class will march for a concept that they have learned about and believe in. For our class, we will march for GENEROSITY. We will continue to learn about this concept this year and will participate in more events this year that focus on giving to others.

All cleared volunteers are welcome! Meet us in the class as we head out to line up. We will then march, meet as a school at the field and then march back to our class for the end of the day dismissal.

  • Time: Meet at the class before 11:10 am
  • Date: Friday, January 13th, 2017
  • Location: Meet in Room 206 (the march will go up Cypress Cyn, to the field and back down to the school).
  • What to Wear: An EBS shirt, if you don’t have one wear Red or Black.

Math

There are a few things happening in Math right now.

  1. ST Math – This is a new (online) math program that our district has started using. We are beginning to use this as well. The students each have a username and password. Once logged in the program matches the level each student. This is a program that will only be used at school as it is also a way to monitor student progress.
  2. I have had some parents asking me for additional ways to help their child practice math skills. At this level, one of the most important parts of math is gaining a strong foundation in number sense. This will be used and built upon in future years. In addition at this age level, math should be fun! Playing games, counting objects, etc…are all great ways to build a strong foundation. Below are some links that you can use to have your child play some games that practice number sense skills.

Fine Artists – Help Needed

This week is our 3rd Fine Artist Lesson, run by our lovely Fine Artist Classroom Volunteers! We will be creating an art piece that is based one of Pablo Picasso’s pieces. If you are cleared and would like to join in for the fun, come to Fine Artists Room on Wednesday at 11:00 for set up! The students will be joining at 11:15. The class should run 45 minutes to an hour. Thank You!

RAZ Kids

Remember to use your RAZ kids subscription for another venue of independent reading for you child. If you need your password again, send me a quick email and I can help. Its a great way for your child to practice reading and some basic comprehension (starts at a certain level). NOTE: The RAZ levels do not correlate with the levels we use in class.

Mother/Son Bowling

If you attended this fun event on 1/7/17, be sure to send me a picture to post in next week’s blog!

Field Trip – D Clearance

I sent out an email earlier this week regarding D clearance. This is a new level of clearance that is now required. A good thing about the clearance is that the fingerprinting only needs to be done once for this level of clearance. The regular volunteer form will still need to be completed each year. The D clearance allows you to be alone with a group of students (in a car ride to a field trip, in a small group at the zoo, etc.). In order to do any class field trips this year we would need enough D cleared parents to drive all the students.

If this is something you have, or interested or willing to get, please contact Mrs. Hickson or myself. If we have enough drivers we will be able to plan 1-2 field trips this spring. Either way our class will have other fun events to participate in as we enter spring time!
