Welcome to Week 38! This post includes: •Thank You •Last Day Photo •Running Club Achievements •Summer Playdates
First off, Mrs. Hickson and I want to THANK YOU all for such an amazing school year! We are both so grateful for your awesome kids and all the support you all provided in volunteering, participating in school events, dressing up your kids for spirit activities, chaperoning and driving for field trips, holding your kids accountable to homework reading, and of course bringing your kids each day for the learning, relationship-building and fun! We have both said numerous times to each other and other parents what an outstanding group of families and students we were able to have in our 206 family!
Our last 2 days were very special and fun! We both wanted to thank you for the summer bag of fun! We will both be using our beach bags, flip-flops and hats while we enjoy the pool, or beach or sunny days of fun with our families!
We will miss each of you, but hope you have a great summer! Take a lot of time to play outside, enjoy your time together, try some new foods/activities and of course read some awesome books! Create a summer bucket list full fun activities, along with some productive check-offs and some acts of generosity! Make the most of your time together before we come back to school for the Fall!
Last Day Photos
The last day was so much fun! We said goodbye to our last morning routines, cleaned up our room had our last “Friday/Monday Fun,” signed yearbooks/memory books and then voted on a movie choice. The winner was Adventures in Zambezia! They each enjoyed the movie along with a snack!
During our movie, I snapped a quick shot to mark the “Last Day of TK” for each child present. Shown below are both the “First Day of TK” and “Last Day of TK” so you can download and stitch together if you wish!
Running Club Achievements
Before our year finished we had 2 more students reach new goals in the Before School Running Club!
If you didn’t get to participate this year, I highly encourage your to try it out next year. It starts at 8:15 everyday! It promotes healthy exercise, goal setting/milestones, and creates friendships! I’ll be out there each Monday as well! At the end of the year there is a before-school awards ceremony to award every participant for their achievements over the year!
This summer there will be some organized playdates for incoming TK and K Students. If you will be around, come and join the fun to see familiar faces and welcome in any new Kindergarten friends to EBS! Contact our own Megan McGarry-Black for more information. See the flyer below.
We hope to see you all there!
Thank You Again!
It’s been a true pleasure and we thank you again. Have a great summer!
Welcome to Week 37! This post includes: •Donuts with Daddies •End of the Year Party: Fun in the Sun •What to expect the last two days…. •Summer Playdates •The Last Two Days!
Donuts with Daddies
On Thursday we had many of our daddies, mommies and grandparents come to celebrate the love we have for our daddies! Students wrote about the “Top 3 Reasons Why They LOVE Their Daddies,” and left them as a treat on the tables. We then listened to the students sing What a Wonderful World by Louie Armstrong. (so sweet) After our song, the fun began! The kids and their daddies played Minute to Win It Games! The students played first and then the daddies got a turn.
The first game was stacking as many pennies as you can using only 1 hand.
The second game was using 1 hand to push cheerios onto a pipe cleaner. This was a hoot!
Finally, we divulged in donuts and juice! Delish! Thank you to all the family members that came out to participate and hope that each family enjoy celebrating those daddies we love so much!
End of Year Party: Fun in the Sun
This past Friday we went up to the Run Club Field to set up our tent, towels and wait for the fun to begin! Many families came out to join in and watch the kiddos have a fantastic time! J.W. Tumbles set up 6 stations for each of our classes to rotate through. Each station involved water and fun! After the games, the students each got pizza, fruit, a juice box and some Otterpops to fill up with! What a fantastic way to spend one of our last days!
What to expect in our last days…
Below you can read about some details about our last two days. Please send backpacks and folders both days as they may be used to send items home. Feel free to send yearbooks for signing.
Monday – Students will be attending a school wide spirit assembly this morning. Students will also be coming home with a Trade Joe bag full of school belongings. TK/K Spirit Day Theme: Hawaiian Day
Tuesday – Movie Day! Please send a “G” Rated Film to watch this morning. The class will choose one of the films to watch as a class. We will eat popcorn as we watch a great film. Report cards will go home this day in your child’s folder. This is also a half day for the entire school so we will be dismissing from the classroom. TK/K Spirit Day Theme: EBS Spirit Day
HIGH HEAT WARNING: The temperatures are expected to be very high these 2 days. Students will be eating and playing inside. Please dress appropriately and send water bottles.
This summer there will be some organized playdates for incoming TK and K Students. If you will be around, come and join the fun to see familiar faces and welcome in any new friends! Contact our own Megan McGarry-Black for more information. See the flyer below.

End Of the Year Party
This date is coming very soon! Thank you for all who have signed up to bring items needed for this day! Please make sure to send in your money for Pizza/Activities.
This week is Spirit Week! Don’t be caught without your decor! Get creative each day with the topic of the day. This is school wide and I plan on doing my best to also participate!
4th of July Parade
Every year EBS is a patriotic part of the Scripps Ranch 4th of July Parade. Many teachers and students and of course Ms. Sloan will come out to show spirit for our country and our school. If you thin you will be in town and would like to be a part of this school and country spirit, please fill out the form sent home and return it. In addition there are EBS shirts available for purchase in case you need one to wear for the parade!
This week our school participated in the Western BBQ! We had many parents come out and eat lunch with their kiddo! What a great day with beautiful weather! Giddyup!
Video of Book Share Fair
This past Tuesday, the books that we collected (along with many other donated books) were set up at my friend’s school. She said the students had the best day! The staff and families just couldn’t believe their eyes and didn’t understand why so many people would be so generous to perfect strangers! This is true generosity folks! The kids all took home 5 books each and were elated and begin reading their books immediately!
She plans to do this book drive again next spring, so if you have more books that you are giving away, bring them by Room 206 next year!
Here’s a few pics of the day!
Running Club Achievements
This sweet boy received a ribbon this week to celebrate his achievement and dedication of running 200 laps this year! Congrats!
Donuts with Daddies
Just a reminder for this upcoming Thursday! If you daddy is not able to make it (we completely understand). Please feel free to send another loved one in Daddy’s place if you and your child decide!
PE on Wednesday
This Wednesday we are so lucky to have a day with one of the EBS PE Coaches. Make sure your child is wearing their tennis shoes that day, with sunscreen and dressed appropriately for that day’s weather forecast. Thanks! It will be a little intro to next year!
I’ll still take any boxes if you have some at home. We are starting to move this week if you happen to have any boxes to donate! Thank you!
This summer our very own Megan McGarry-Black is hosting summer playdates for any new incoming K’s or current TK’s. See the info. below! This is a time to join and bond as a new kindergarten community. This will be a great time to see some familiar faces and branch out to meet some new faces! Come on out and join the fun!
Donuts with Daddies – Thursday, June 16th @ 8:45 am
End of Year Party with all TK/K classes – Monday, June 20th, 2016
Welcome to Week 35! This post includes: •Field Trip Recap •Character Education – Loyalty •Book Drive Final •Last Book Borrow •Western BBQ •Spirit Week •Box Donate Father’s Day RSVP •End of the Year K/TK Party •Stars of the Week •Future Dates •The Week Ahead
Field Trip Recap
This week we, 13 adults and 22 kids, headed up to our Escondido destination to visit the San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum! I can start off by saying this place was awesome! We were warmly welcomed by Miss Elizabeth (who was previously a TK teacher herself). She told them about the day they were about to enjoy and established clear rules for the facility.
We were then led back to their outdoor classroom! She led the students in an “All About Me” art piece in which they got to draw with markers, cut out their drawing, watercolor and finger paint a background and then glue their picture on! So much fun!
After the students ate their snacks and they explored the grounds! They loved this! There was so much to do in their indoor/outdoor discovery center! Check out the pics to see the fun! Super successful day to recap our year of full of art (thanks to Mrs. Hickson and Fine Artists).
Character Education – Loyalty
This week, Ann Tran-Lien came in to teach the students about loyalty! She gave positive and negative examples to help explain what loyalty is! Then she showed the examples using the student favorite….puppets! After the kids made a badge that said, “You can count on me!” for the kids to decorate and wear to give to a friend. Later in the day we did some writing about what Loyalty means and who they could be loyal too! These kids are too sweet!
Book Drive Final
We finished our Book Drive at EBS to send up to Central Elementary this week! As a class and school we collected 900 books for these kiddos to take home! This is so exciting! I believe my friend Emily already raised over her 2000 so our donations will ensure that every student in the school may get to take 3 books home each (including their site preschool)! Thank You so much for giving and making a difference in the lives of other communities right here in San Diego!
Last Book Borrow
This week is our last week of Book Borrow and our last reading log! All book borrow books will be due next Friday, June 10th. A flyer will go home to help remind families. Though we all know this doesn’t mean the reading will stop for the summer, give your last big effort to get your 20 minutes of reading completed and logged each night! Let’s see if we can get everyone to return the final reading log next Friday!
This week is the Western BBQ. This is at 12:30 after school like the one in December, so if you’d like to join return the slip that went home this week. The slip was due on Friday, but you can check with the office if they will still accept them on Monday morning. All the information is on the flyer that went home below.
To participate, come to pick up your child at the gate and go through back through the office to eat lunch up at the lunch tables.
We are also calling this Western Day (an extra spirit day)! Dress a little Western on Wednesday to participate in the fun!
Spirit Week is almost here! Get your outfits ready! These are school-wide Spirit Days so all will be participating! We made a modification on Wednesday, June 15th so that their is a choice for all those participating! Don’t be embarrassed! Join the fun! See the details below!
Wednesday, June 8th – Western Day (Kindergarten Spirit Day)
Monday, June 13th – Pajama Day (EBS Spirit Day)
Tuesday, June 14th – College Day (EBS Spirit Day)
Wednesday, June 15th – Time Travel/ Mis-Match Day (EBS Spirit Day)
Thursday, June 16th – Crazy Hair Day (EBS Spirit Day)

Tuesday, June 21st – EBS Spirit Day (Kindergarten Spirit Day)
Unfortunately due to the big flood this past year, our floor was damaged and will need to be completely repaired, meaning we have to move out and back into Room 206 this summer. If you have any extra boxes that you don’t need bring them by the last week of school as we will be packing up this summer!
Father’s Day – RSVP
Official flyers (see sample below) will go home Monday, June 6th, but as stated in last week’s blog post, we will be celebrating our Daddies with Donuts on Thursday, June 16th! We’d love for all the daddies to join us at 8:45 am for a little treat and activity with your student. We are starting first thing in the morning and will make it quick as we know that work schedules are busy. If your child’s daddy isn’t able to make it and you would like to come or send another family member to join in Daddy’s place, please know they are more than welcome.
Please RSVP on the whiteboard: by Monday, June 13th if you plan on having a family member attending!
End of the Year K/TK Party
Yellow “Fun in the Sun” flyers went home this week to inform families about this End of the Year celebration on Monday, June 20th. JW Tumbles will be coming out to create water game activity stations for the K/TK classes to rotate through. Students will likely get very wet (and fortunately its Hawaiian Day) so feel free to dress in swim wear or clothes you are comfortable getting wet. I might recommend sending an extra pair of clothes to change your TK kiddo into before they get into your car as they could likely be drenched. Students will also need a towel to dry off and to sit on as we have our pizza lunch after.
This whole event will all take place up at the Run Club field (which is likely where our dismissal for the day will be as well). You are welcome to come and watch! Sign-ups are on the whiteboard to bring fruit and a few other items for this day!
Don’t be left without one! I already bought mine and one for my very own EBS student as well! These are fun to look back, remember and to hold on to the signatures of these sweet 5 year old hands! Click below to get to the website!
