End of the Year Information

As the end of the year is approaching quickly, you’ll see there are a multitude of events, activities, etc. that will all be taking place in these last 16 days! Please make sure you are reading the blog, notes home, AFP notes, etc. You won’t want to miss any of the fun that we are about to embark on! I’m going to list some of the important things to note. Please let me know if you have any questions and remind other 206 families to read the content so they don’t miss out either!

  • Not returning? – If you are not planning to return to EBS next year, please let myself and the office know right away.
  • Spirit Week – More details will come as this week approaches, but typically, the last full week of school will have a different spirit theme in which you can dress up and participate! This week is loved by all the kids!
  • Yearbooks – Purchase your child’s yearbook now! These are great mementos, but the students LOVE their yearbooks and will be given time to sign each other’s books in the last week. ($25
  • School work – you will receive a compilation of your child’s work that has been collected throughout the year. I will keep some samples to pass on to next year’s teacher. This will be sent home along with any other materials that also belong with your child (crayons, pencil, pointer, etc). All of these will likely go home in a Trader Joe’s Paper bag for your child to carry out.
  • Report Cards – These are typically sent home the last day of school in an envelope in your child’s folder.
  • Art Portfolio – Each year your child’s Fine Art Portfolio has all the pieces your child has created this year (including the piece from the Spring Art Show). Your child will also be bringing these home soon.
  • Donuts with Daddies – Similarly to our Muffins with Mom we will be hosting a Donuts with Daddies day on Thursday, June 16, 2016 first thing in the morning so our daddies can all hopefully stay for a bit and go into work just after.
  • End of Year TK/K Party – Each year the TK and K classes unite to have a final bash to finish off the year. We have JW Tumbles come out to host a field/water event. More information will be coming out regarding costs, food sign-ups, attire, etc. Mark your calendars as this event will happen on Monday, June 20th and may require our day to extend by 30 minutes (for a 1:00pm release).

Incredible Insects

This week the students were able to participate in the San Diego Natural History Museum on-site field trip. We met in the say room with 5 docents from the museum. These kind faces spoke to us generally about insects and then the students split into 5 groups. Each group focused on different aspects of insects or different insect types. The students met in groups for 8-10 minutes and then rotated to the next group until they went through every group. There was a group on Bees & Ants (Social insects), Spiders (with a live tarantula), Butterflies, Bugs and Beetles, and Metamorphosis. Check out the pictures below to check out our day.

Character Education –

This week Laarnie Chou came in to teach the students about COOPERATION. She read them a book about cooperation and then let them participate in an activity that practiced cooperation. Each child was able to make their quilt piece. Then all the students brought their quilt pieces together to create a class quilt! This was a great reinforcement in understanding and practicing the concept of working together!

Disaster Drill

This week we had our annual Disaster Drill. Ms. Sloan spoke on the loudspeaker and announced that it was a disaster drill and that we were pretending that there was an earthquake and pretending that the ground was shaking. At that point the students got under their desks and practiced covering their eyes and protecting their heads. At that point we had to wait 2 full minutes under the desk to wait and see if there was anymore pretend shaking (as tremors are a likely event in a real earthquake).

At the end of the 2 minutes we exited the classroom and went up to our usual fire drill spot. We turned in a count of all the students in our room to make sure everyone made it safely to our spot. At this point the students needed to wait while the rescue teams (made up of EBS staff) checked all the rooms to make sure they were safe. Ms. Sloan told them they could talk quietly to their neighbors while waiting. After 15-20 minutes we were told the drill was over and we were able to go back to our room.

The students did the best they ever have on any drill and this was the longest one yet! They walked out safely, stayed quiet and followed directions and walked back safely. I’m so proud of these kids!

Incredible Insects -Tuesday!

Don’t forget we have our on-site field trip on Tuesday. I got a little more information regarding how it will be organized. We will actually be on our own and the student will rotate in 5 small groups as they learn about insects. We are so excited! We’ve been learning about a couple insects as we prepare for the field trip and as we begin reading information.

If you haven’t returned your envelope in yet, please do so right away as the money will be turned in early next week!

Updated Category C List

This has been posted on the whiteboard outside. Come by and check to see your clearance status! Thank you for all your efforts to get cleared and volunteer in our class!

Open House 2016

What a great event this was! Thank you for all for taking your personal time to come and visit your child’s pride in their work and daily environment. Students toured their families around the classroom to show them some highlights we have learned and created. In addition there was an EBS choir performance along with the spectacular school Art Show in which each child in the entire school had a piece of art displayed! (Special thanks for all our fine artists volunteers who not only helped create the art, but help to organize and mount student art for display!). Check out the gallery of pictures that were captured this evening!

Yearbook Sale

You don’t want to miss this! Yearbooks went on sale. If you are in question whether to buy one or not, I would recommend purchasing one for your child not only to hold on to the memories, but also as the children LOVE when these arrive in class and will be given time in the last week to get signatures! I plan to buy one for my own child along with one for myself! (I have a collection of yearbooks since I was in Kindergarten). See the flyer that went home this week (also pictured below) for ordering information!

We Have Heart Book Collection

We collected 53 books this week! What a great start! I’m hoping EBS can collect 500 books to give to Ms. Emily’s school! These books will give them reading material over the summer, an opportunity they wouldn’t have otherwise! Thank you for being so generous!

GOT BOOKS? (We Have Heart)

We Have Heart – May 2016 Challenge

Families of 206 – Each month we have focused on those who go without _____. There are so many people who live daily without the everyday luxuries we sometimes take for granted! This month we are going to give to those who go without books! My dear friend Emily, teaches in Escondido at an inner city school. Many of families that attend this school live day to day…some without food, clothing, electricity, homes and some even go without parents. You can imagine, when your immediate needs are constantly in question, items such as books are a total luxury!

My friend Emily is doing a Book Drive to share books with all these kids! She has set the goal of bringing in 2000 by June 7! I have my own goal of getting 3000! I know it can be done! The goal is to bring in any new or used books and sort them into levels (I can sort for you)! She can then distribute multiple books to each kid at the school. Imagine your child at 5 or even 9 years and not every owning their own book. Many of these families don’t have any books in their home other than a bible or a dictionary.

If you would like to contribute to the cause…ask friends, and neighbors if they have any books to give. Go through your own home library (crazy most of us have a collection of books right in our homes!). Stop by a local garage sale to buy and/or see if they would discount, or give any books not sold at the end of the day! Bring these books to our class and I’ll sort and deliver these to Emily’s school!

What do you say?…lets get our generosity going and give!
