Generosity Bags

We are extending our Generosity Bag collection until after spring break! We have 10 bags! Thank you so much to all of those who have donated! If you still want to participate we are excepting bags through Friday, April 5th!

D Cleared??? Drivers Needed

A pink slip of paper was sent home on Friday, so we could check who was D cleared to ensure we had enough drivers for a field trip. Please return with your clearance information.

If you plan to D cleared to attend field trips or B cleared to join us at Mother’s or Father’s Day, please make sure you turn in your application and necessary documents by next Friday, March 22nd, 2019.

Jog-A-Thon

Great job Team Miller! We are currently $640 dollars! Great job!! Our Jog-A-Thon is this coming Friday and the kids are excited, but also not totally sure what they are in for! Its a fun day they will love!

We will pass out JAT shirts the day of the event. Kids can wear the JAT shirt over another shirt, or they can change before we go to the field.

Snapshot of our JAT Time: We will head up to the field together around 10:30. You are welcome to meet us in the classroom or up at the field. The kids will warm up and then be set free to run for an hour. Their laps will be counted by getting their cards scanned each time around. There will also be a Kindergarten/TK Pop-Up with all the waters for each Kindergarten/TK class. At the end, we will walk back to the cafeteria area to eat lunch and dismiss for the day! We can’t wait to see you there!!

New Library Policy

New library policy – If you happen to lose your EBS Library book and can’t find it anywhere…no need to stress! We have a new policy to recover the book:

EBS will not accept money / checks for lost books anymore! Parents can donate a book from our new Amazon Wish List in order to replace a lost or damaged book.

This way we can keep the library stocked with books that we need and that the students are interested in reading without collecting and refunding money, and the books get sent right to the EBS library.

Writing Goals

The students have made such amazing progress this year! Remember back in August….many of students wrote lines, or a few random letters. Now they are phonetically spelling and writing messages! It’s one of the best parts of this year! As we are nearing the end of the year, we are focusing on a couple writing goals as we write. Most of the students in our class are writing without period/punctuation or using them incorrectly. We are currently focusing on understanding how to use periods at the end of each idea and reread to check if they are properly placed. We will be working on this along with another goal to get ourselves and our writing ready for the next school year! Can you believe its been 125 days of school already!

Spring Break

Enjoy this week! Spend it resting, with friends or family, playing and having fun! If you would like to practice any reading or writing, you are always welcome to go through the EBS website to access:

  • ST Math
  • RAZKids

Fun Friday

Each Friday at the end of the day, the students get a free time to use social play centers in the classroom. They love this time and it is unstructured time in class that they get. It allows for social skills practice in sharing, taking turns, encouraging, communicating feelings and a lot more. Here’s a couple pics I snapped from this week’s time.

Jog-A-Thon (JAT) Update – Team Miller

WE DID IT!! So proud of Team Miller! We placed in the top 3 for whole class registrations! The JAT team is giving little squishy keychains for donations. Kids are asking how to get them. We’ve had some discussions about donations to help our school, but you may want to have this discussion and possibly ask neighbors and family to see if they are interested in supporting their little runner and EBS (flat donation or an amount per lap).

If you want to check our donations page click here:  https://secure.eventsonline.us/reg/getmovincrew/pub/classroom/63076

The top class gets to silly string Ms. Sloan! How fun would that be? As fo this morning we are up to $320 raised in our class! I put a picture of our fundraising meter on Facebook. We add to it each day! Great job Team Miller!

Character Education – Honesty

  • This week our 5th grade students came in to share about Honesty. They had the students get in small groups and drop a quarter in a tub of water. They then proceeded to see if they could cover up the quarter by dropping pennies in the water to cover up the quarter. The quarter represented a lie and the pennies represented our trying to hide the lie with other lies. It was a great representation and engaging activity for the students.
  • We also had Emily Forgeron come in this week to also give the students a follow up lesson on Honesty. She shared a book with them and gave some examples of “truth” or “not truth.” In the end the students each got their own Honesty Heart necklace with words to remind them about honesty and the trust it brings! Thank you Emily!

Changing Spots!!

In case you haven’t heard we got some new rug spots and desk areas this week! It was a fun change and we always make minor adjustments as needed. All students moved desks and most students moved rug spots. Its a great time for this relocation and good practice to getting used to change and working with different personalities. Ask your child about their new neighbors and how they felt about the change! #dinnerdiscussionidea

Celebration of the Arts

Next Thursday is the Celebration of the Arts at Barnes at Noble. This is a fun night we have each year. Some of the activities include:

  • Marking your passport as you visit stations at the store (used as a raffle ticket)
  • Listening to the EBS choir and band
  • Visiting with Mrs. Sloan’s dogs
  • Checking out student art (there could be a piece of your child’s art!)

TK/Kinder Science Night

What a blast we had on this night. We solved different experiments to help Mr. Peabody. The kids who came explored with their parent and found some solutions for Mr. Peabody! If you didn’t get a chance to join this event, you can definitely join next year!

Parenting Idea: Make it a daddy date night or mom date night with your child. Grab a quick meal before hand and give special and undivided attention to your child that night. Its a lovely time to spend with your child and remind them that they are a special gift in your life!

Dr. Seuss Week Follow-Up

This past week, we had a great time celebrating a beloved author, with a fun spirit week and reading many of his books. We noticed that as an author he used lots of rhyming, silly words and humor, repetition, and many sight words. Here are a couple pictures from this week in which we celebrated a wonderful writer who left a legacy of reading that will be carried on for many years to come!

Assessments

As you know that conferences are coming up. Beyond conferences, this is a time we take at this time of year to assess where the children are at and to see how they are progressing. The majority of these assessments need to be done one-on-one as it is typically the only way to see what each child truly knows at this young age. Though these grades have no affect on their college acceptance letters, they are interesting and informative to see how your child has adjusted to their first year in elementary school so far. If there are areas your child may not be progressing as quickly as possibly you expected or as quickly as a sibling might have in the past…no need to worry. Children progress and learn differently and at various paces. As with my own children, when they are struggling in an area, we take a little more of our home practice time to focus on that area. If you need specific ideas, we can discuss that in our conference.

If you child is not needing a conference, are there any areas in school that your child is feeling are more challenging or that they may have dislike? For these areas you can try to maybe focus on in a new or fun way at home to build a fresh opinion or new perspective on that subject area.

EBS Jog A Thon

This past Friday, you received a packet regarding the Jog-A-Thon in your child’s folder. Check out this video to tell you a little more about it and give you some visuals on what our day will be like! It’s a day of fun, exercise and loads of excitement from the class. Read through the packet and let me know if there are any questions. We are scheduled to have this day on Friday, March 22nd!

If you have any feedback on our 206 class, I am always looking for ways to improve and would love to hear ways you may see to better the TK experience for the remainder of this and for future TK students. I welcome any feedback and truly value your opinion.

Kindergarten Science Night

Our turn is coming up! Next Thursday, March 7th @ 6:30, EBS will be having its TK/K Science Night. This night takes place in the MPR. The organizers request for every science night that no siblings attend as there are limited materials for the experiments and it is a special night for you and your child to experience some Science fun together! Come and enjoy!

EBS Idol Audition

I’m not sure if you saw the past post about EBS Idol! This is a very fun and unique EBS night! Besides the fun entertainment, it is an awesome opportunity to have your child experience a true and admirable skill of being on stage in front of an audience. Some kids love this and some kids are frightened by it, but for all children it takes true bravery and a great sense of pride when it is over! You will see a variety of piano performances, cultural dances, solos, dances, tricks, and skits that are performed. Consider signing your child up for a solo act or two perform with a friend or group! You won’t regret it.

Sign-Ups end on March 5th and are located on the doors of the school library!
