206 Winter Celebration

  • Wreath Craft – The students created a beautiful wreath craft they were able to bring home! They tore small pieces of paper to create the wreath!
  • Pin the Nose on the Snowman – The students played this game and had a blast!
  • We had a little extra time to start a winter card
  • Then we enjoyed a delicious snack of apple juice and teddy grahams!

Thank you to Kristi Bidermann and Fran Ayalasomayajula for planning our party! Thank you Ms. Kristi for running the whole show last Friday. They all had a blast! She helped the kids transition from activity to activity and created a smooth itinerary for the celebration!

Thank You!

Thank you for the generous gifts to Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Leatherwood! We are so very grateful for each of you and are wishing you a outstanding holiday with your families! Take time to rest, relax and get in lots of play time!

Holiday!

We are so grateful for each of you and this 206 family we get to ring in the new year with! Thank you so much for your kind and generous hearts! Mrs. Leatherwood and I loved the 206 class gifts!

We want to wish each of you a Happy Holiday and Happy New Year!

Love, The Leatherwoods and The Millers

Library Books

Just a reminder to return your library books when we return. I know its hard to remember with the alternating weeks. You can check the monthly volunteer calendar or return books right away to our classroom or school library to ensure that your child will be able to check out a book at the next library visit.

Pajama Day

How cute were all these little jammie kids! What a fun day we had! They were sooooo excited!

Art

Mrs. Leatherwood has done some art and learning this month about some of the different holidays that are celebrated at this time of year. She taught them about Hanukkah and Kwaanza. These are samples of the art the students made and brought home.

Caroling

Did you know the EBS Choir gave courtyard performances last Friday! We got to hear their gorgeous voices and lovely carols! Happy Holidays!

Sight Words

Just a reminder over the break to practice your sight word collection of RED, ORANGE, YELLOW, and LIGHT GREEN to maker sure you are all caught up. DARK GREEN will go home when we return. Thank you!

CHUCKIE!!!!

Last week a mouse was found on campus! He created quite a stir up! Hoping some of you were able to make it out the EBS Night Out at Chuckie E. Cheese!

Reminders

  • Just as a notification and reminder, the folders were kept over the break and will be returned to each student when we come back.

Passwords were sent home at that time as well, but your child may remember their password on their own as they access this at school/Technology academy sometimes.    https://www.linneamiller.com/2017/10/tk-days-oct-9-13/

In This Week’s Post: Cleared, We Have Heart, 2-Sided Volunteer Calendar, Western Family BBQ, Upcoming Events, The Week Ahead

Cleared?

Just a reminder to make sure you get cleared. I know the fingerprint process can take awhile since the district has to process it. We will need enough car seat spaces in order to make it to any field trips in the spring. Just a reminder…”C” clearance will allow you to come in the classroom for all school events. If you get “D” clearance you will be able to join us on any field trip.

I know this process is a lot of time and effort so thank you in advance. Our school follows the district code strictly to keep our kids safe which is much appreciated. Thank you! If you want to get cleared, stop by our nurse’s office and speak to our nurse/pick up the required forms.

We Have Heart

This week we were collecting food bags all week long! We collected more each day. Teachers gave bags and past students of mine also participated in the giving along with some friends of mine. In the end we ended up collecting: 149 meal bags to send down to families in Tijuana, Mexico! Thank you for your generosity this season!

We had an amazing day spending time with this wonderful community! They got to decorate cookies, play games, do a directed drawing and each child up to 18 years old got a gift! The topper on the cake was the contributions of food. Since all the kids get to participate in all the activities, the adults (who love being there) essentially watch their kids get all these gifts and activities. In the end, the adults are going home empty-handed. This year…the adults were able to take home the meal bags as their own gifts! They were very grateful…the day was fully of smiles! Thank you again!

2-sided Volunteer Calendar

This upcoming week, the January Volunteer Calendar is coming out! I’m bringing back a great activity that I used to do when I would send home a weekly reading log instead of just getting a log every time you finish one. This is character building. It is completely optional and may look different each month or the same, but will focus on a different character traits we strive to strengthen in ourselves. If you choose to participate, send back your paper/calendar at the end of January and share your child’s efforts!

Western Family BBQ

Wednesday afternoon was our Winter Family BBQ. Many families came out to enjoy lunch with their kiddos! Thank you for making the hike over to EBS as I know some parents come from work. What a fun day!

In This Week’s Post: We Have Heart, Star of the Week, Western BBQ, Problem of the Day Booklets, Mother/Son Bowling, Reading Rotation/Deployment, Writing, Upcoming Events, The Week Ahead

We Have Heart

This week a blog post went out regarding our first giving project of the year. We are providing Meals for Mexico. We have many 206 past families that will be joining our efforts to bring a meal down to Mexican families who sometimes go without food. We would love for you to participate! This is a great way to help provide meals for families in need, but an even greater opportunity to have a discussion with your child/family regarding the hunger needs world-wide.

If you plan to participate, remember that all food bags need to be turned in by Thursday, December 7th. If you forgot the details about the food bags you can click here to read the post regarding the bags:  https://www.linneamiller.com/2017/11/heart-family-food-bags/

Star of the Week

Next Monday our first Star of the Week poster will be going home. This is a listening/speaking activity. One child will get a turn each week. When it is your child’s turn they will receive:

  • “All About Me” Poster
  • Direction sheet from Mrs. Leatherwood & Mrs. Miller
  • A sample of the listening/speaking rubric that shows what to practice with your child

This is a fun activity that you can create with your child. We will continue giving each child a turn when we return from Winter Break.

Western BBQ

Next Wednesday is the Western BBQ. We hope you can all make it! If you are able to make it, please fill out and return the slip at the bottom of the flyer sent home this week. If  you plan attending, please make sure you stop go through the office to sign in prior to going to lunch.

Problem of Day Booklets

Next week, you will be receiving the remainder of your child’s old Problem of the Day (POD) booklet. We are starting a new booklet this week and decided to send the old booklet home to be completed for practice. These DO NOT need to be returned. We are starting a new unit of numbers 6-10 in which we will practice the same skills along with some new tools, methods, and question types with numbers a little bit larger. Have your child explain how they use their booklets to show their work in 2 ways as well as write an equation and share their answer.

Mother Son Bowling

The flyer went home this past Friday regarding the annual Mother Son Bowling event. This is a great date for moms and their little guys! In February we also have our Father Daughter Dance to let our Daddies have a night with their gals! Return the form and come on out for a great night!

Reading Rotation/Deployment

This past week was our first week of our new Reading Rotation with all the kindergarten classes. I sent out an email regarding our new system, but essentially it lets every student get direct instruction in their reading level 4 days a week in addition to trying out a new classroom and getting more comfortable with our kindergarten teachers! This is a great opportunity and the kids have really enjoyed it! So proud of these sweet TK’s as they each transitioned super smoothly and had an awesome week!

Volunteers for January Calendar

Volunteers! Thank you for your time and help each month! I will be making the January Volunteer Calendar early this week since it will need to be out earlier this month. If you have any special changes for next month, please let me know right away so I can adjust the calendar. Thank you!

Writing – Informative

For these 3 weeks before we go on Winter Break, we are working on a Information unit. We have discussed in our Informative writing is all about information. We are not writing a story but rather giving information about a topic. We are doing so in a modeled writing format to also address/practice capitalization, punctuation, etc. After trying on a modeled piece about a topic, many students will go off to write a piece of their own.

In January we will continue Informative Writing with a new unit in which we write the steps about “How-to” do something we know. This is similar, but will focus more on the craft of “how-to” writing and will be more in the form of a book.

Each of these units focus differently on different aspects of informative writing.
