Strep

There have some cases of Strep floating around our campus that our nurse asked us to share this information.

Strep Throat Fact Sheet

100th Day

Our 100th Day is coming up soon (Friday, February 9th)! There are many activities and ways that we celebrate this day as a class, grade level and school! Check below to get the scoop on this special day!

  • Fashion Show – TK’s will be walking the 206 Runway! The 100 Day Apron Kits will go home on Monday with directions and materials. Be as creative as possible! Send them back as early as you want. The kids will show off their aprons on Friday the 9th! (Aprons Due No later than Friday, 9th, but send as soon as yours is complete)
  • 100 Year Old Writing (Due Thursday, Feb. 8th) Students will receive a writing sheet to do at home telling about when they are 100 years old. This is the only project that will receive a grade. Like the “Star of the Week” poster students will only be graded on their presentation to the class, not the actual writing.
  • 100 Year Old Dress Day (Friday, Feb. 9th) – Join the TK/Kindergarten Fun! All kindergartners and their teachers will be dressing up like they are 100 years old! Start thinking about some possible ideas! For anyone who is worried if they’ll look silly…..we all look old and silly that day! Its super cute and you can count on teachers being dressed up as well!
  • 100 coin collection – See the picture below of the sheet that went home this week from the school. It tells about the act of generosity we are using school-wide to help others in celebration of the 100th day!

Perseverance Sheet

Last week, the volunteer calendar went home with students. Attached was an additional/optional sheet for students to partake in trying. The purpose of the sheet is for students to understand and put these traits into practice. Perseverance can be challenging as it requires you to get comfortable with failing and trying again and again. If you choose to return the sheet, we’d love to share these with the class!

Valentine’s in 206

Valentine’s Day is coming up soon! I know there are always a few families to like to get an early start on their Valentine’s so I like to send this out to give out an important message regarding this fun holiday of giving!

  • There is NO CANDY or FOOD allowed in any of the valentines. This is policy is designed to keep all kids safe. There are many other non-food options. Check out Pinterest or there are even a few non-food ideas sold with Valentine kits in stores.
  • Please make sure when you are filling out your valentines DO NOT label who the valentine is for. Only label the “From: ” Though it may not seem as personal it is extremely helpful to each little mail deliverer as they fill their friends bag with notes/goodies.
  • There are 21 kids in our class so you aware of how many to make/purchase.

Writing How-to’s

We are finishing up our How-To Informational Writing Unit this week! The kids have loved it! They have learned to write/teach a skill in steps with pictures to match! I’m so impressed with their effort and interest in this unit! Books will go home in the future for families to see!

Stemfuse Class

This week we had the pleasure of having Ms. Stephanie come into our class to teach a STEM lesson with our class. She used prepositions as one of her contents and had the kids work in collaborative partners to learn about prepositions in a fun way as they hid treasures around the room and drew a treasure map!

Parachute Play

This week our kids filled their marble jar! This means they earned a “Marble Party.” This is a collaborative effort in which the kids earn marbles for working together as a class. We got to vote how they wanted to spend their Marble Party. Their was many choices and the Parachute won out! We had a blast playing with a group parachute for the morning!

D Clearance

Please consider getting cleared. This will allow you to not only attend all EBS events, but to also help our class go on a field trip as well as have you join us. Below are some notes from Nurse Dee regarding how to be cleared:

  • T.B. test – Good for 4 yrs.
  • Volunteer application – (Megan’s Law) needs to be done every school year.
  • Category D clearance – needs to be done every school year.
Can not be done until you have completed the volunteer application and provided a current T.B. test.
(Cleared as a category B volunteer)

    • 1. 1st year as a category D volunteer – you will need to complete a “Category D form” and go to the SDUSD police live scan unit to do your finger print.
    • 2. The following school years as a category D volunteer – you will need to complete a “Returning Category D form” hand it back and we will send it down to school police for you. Your Fingerprints are already in the system, it’s a request to re-run your fingerprints

Thank You!

Meet Megan Black

My name is Mrs. Black and I am so excited to be a part of your child’s Transitional Kindergarten experience for the next 7 weeks. I am currently working towards earning my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and Masters in Education. Prior to this, I taught a preschool class at St. Bart’s Preschool in Poway. You may have seen me around EBS as I have two children that attend our great school. My son is in 3rd grade and my daughter is in 1st grade. Like I said before, I will be doing my student teaching for the next 7 weeks under your amazing teacher, Mrs. Miller. This will be a gradual process of observations into teaching the class full-time. I look forward to getting to know you and your children during this time together. Thank you for the warm welcome I have already received!

Truly,

Megan Black

Father Daughter Dance

Girls, your turn is coming up! You get a night to dress up and share with a loved one! This is a favorite EBS evening for all the gals!

Rainbow Sight Words

We are continuing to test on Red, Orange, Yellow, Light Green Words. Continue to play My Pile, Your Pile to practice and retain old color lists and integrate new Dark Green Words.

How-To Writing Unit

We have recently started a new writing unit. Like in December, this new writing is informative, though it is focused on teaching the reader how do something. The students are learning to choose a topic of something they know and understand well (ie How to Brush My Teeth). In this unit, students are learning:

  • To break their topic into steps
  • To draw pictures that matches each step
  • To create a title page
  • To reread their booklet

Ask your TK’er about their books and feel free to brainstorm some additional topics they know well and are able to do independently.

In This Week’s Post: Penguin Parade, MLK,  Art, Valentine’s for Rady’s, Valentine’s for Room 206, Volunteer Calendar – February 2018, Character Education – Forgiveness,  Upcoming Events, The Week Ahead

Penguin Parade

This past Friday was our Penguin Parade! The kids were so excited! We lined up with the whole school for COMPASSION/LOVE! The kids held their handmade signs (these will be on the wall next week) as we walked. Then we sat in our assembly area and listened to some speeches about the important concepts being marched for today!

MLK

This week and last week we spent time discussing Martin Luther King. We discussed how he helped everyone to get peace and to send the message that everyone can be great, regardless of their age, skin, height, gender, etc. He made a great impact in our nation and culture and helped to lead a great movement. This tied in beautifully with our Penguin Parade! Ask your child or have a conversation about some of the changes he made and laws that were unfair back before MLK.

Art

Check out some of the lovely art our class has done since returning from winter break!

Valentines for Rady’s

This month our heart goal is to make Valentine’s for those who are residing at Rady’s Children’s Hospital. They are often checked-in and missing the daily typical life of child. Their health is compromised for a variety of reasons and we wanted to bring a smile to these faces. We will be making these in class over the next week or 2. If you are wanting to help, are cleared and have some flexibility in your schedule, let me know! This is one of the ways we are learning to have compassion towards others, especially those in circumstances that we can’t even phathom!

Valentine’s Day in Room 206!

Valentine’s Day is coming up next month! I know there are always a few families to like to get an early start on their Valentine’s so I like to send this out to give out an important message regarding this fun holiday of giving!

Volunteer Calendar – February 2018

I’m working on the February Volunteer Calendar this weekend! If you have any changes or requests, please let me know and I’ll add them in before I print the final next week. Thank you!

Character Education – Forgiveness

This week Nikita Malavia came in class to give a lesson about Forgiveness. After giving a recap of what forgiveness is, she had them each decorate a heart and make it beautiful! The kids spent time making these as beautiful as they could. Then she asked them how the beautiful heart made them feel. Then she had them trade the heart with their partner and had them crumple their partners heart up. They were surprised and confused why they would do this. Nikita explained when we are hurtful or say hurtful words it is similar to what we did to the hearts that you can’t make it look like it did before it was crumpled. Then partners shared their feelings and then asked for forgiveness.

  • “I felt sad when you _________.”
  • “I’m sorry for ______, will you forgive me?”
  • “I will forgive you, please don’t do that again.”

Forgiveness may take time, when we are really hurt. When we say sorry and ask for forgiveness, it also means that we are going to try very hard to not do that again.

This was a powerful lesson that we can use all the time on the playground, at home and at school. Thank you Nikita!

Penguin Parade

Next Friday is the annual EBS Penguin Parade! For this day, each class at our school will march for a trait that they value and have learned about! Our class will be walking for compassion! We are working to learn more about having compassion for others.

All families are welcome to join us. We will not be on campus, so even if you are not cleared you are welcome to walk with us. Mid-morning (more details will come out next week regarding specific times) we all meet in the parking lot of the school. We will get to lead the pack since were are the youngest at the school. The students will be making signs and a banner this week that we will carry during the parade! The parade will last about 30 – 45 minutes in total until we return to class.

Here’s a picture or two from last year.
